It was a day that started with the threat of forecasted rain but in the end stayed dry. What a result! Today’s walk was a short one at 2.7 miles.

We met outside Sainsburys in Fallowfield then joined the Fallowfield loop line – a combined walking and cycle path which was a former railway line. Around a mile along this path, we branched off into Highfield Country Park where we were met with a fair bit of mud. Nothing that the hardy u3a walkers couldn’t handle. A lovely walk through the wood (and mud) we emerged on to Nelstrop Lane where we walked into Heaton Chapel and lunch at the George & Dragon pub.

Here, everything turned sour. The service was atrocious. We waited nearly an hour for our lunches, only to be told that they still hadn’t even started cooking them. This, despite the fact that we had already pre-ordered our lunches 3 weeks earlier. When the food eventually arrived 90 minutes after we had first entered the pub, it actually tasted OK – even if it did leave a sour taste in my mouth.

A lovely walk spoilt by a disappointing lunch.
