On today’s walk we were blessed with, not only dry weather, but also some glorious sunshine. It almost felt like Summer! There were 21 of us today with 2 late drop-outs. We met up at Piccadilly station in Manchester to catch the train to Hyde Central. From Hyde station we walked a short distance on to the Peak Forest canal. Our walk then took us along the canal towpath all the way into Romiley
The views across the hills and down into the Tame valley were spectacular because of the clear weather. We encountered a few ducks, including some beautifully-coloured mandarin ducks. There were quite a few geese also along the way and they weren’t very friendly, most of them hissing as we went past. Perhaps they were getting ready to start a new family and didn’t welcome a human intrusion. We all have days like that!

We had an exciting walk through Woodley tunnel. Thankfully I had warned people to bring a torch to light the way. Even so, it was a little spooky with the more juvenile members of the group (including me) making ghostly echoing noises. Our walk ended in Romiley with a lovely lunch at the Duke of York pub.
