26th March 2024

Today’s walk was done in lovely sunny and dry conditions. The days beforehand had been wet and miserable so we were blessed when the sun was shining. Sadly, our numbers were well down on normal with 8 people pulling out of the walk in the previous 24 hours due to ill health. A sure sign that we’re all getting old!
We met at Victoria station to catch the tram to Heaton Park. Our walk took us in and around the park which is the largest municipal park in Europe. We had varying views with walks through woods and walks with vistas across Manchester. We paused at the base of what was the observatory for our photo opportunity. We also passed by Heaton Hall which was the home of Lord Egerton up until 1902 when it was bought by Manchester council for £230,000.
We were joined on our walk by Bethany, a student from Salford University studying media. Her final year project is about life in the third age, so she did some filming of our group walking and also did some interviews with us.
The walk was finished off by a tasty lunch at the Beefeater pub where we discussed what we were going to do with ourselves now that we are all film stars.
