Poynton to High Lane

29th October 2024

Another lovely warm and dry day. And it was the end of October! We met up at Piccadilly station to catch the train to Poynton. After a short pavement walk, we reached a path known as Prince’s Incline. This was the former “mineral line” – a narrow-gauge railway line which transported carriages carrying coal and minerals from the various mines in Poynton to the main line railway at Poynton station. Very little of the line or the mines exist today, but there are the odd Victorian industrial buildings dotted around. The path is a gentle 1-mile uphill ascent until it meets the Macclesfield canal. After negotiating a fair bit of mud on the path, we reached the canal. It was a short walk along the towpath into High Lane, where we enjoyed a great lunch at the Red Lion.
