Poetry The Poetry Appreciation Group meets on the first Monday of the month between 11.00 and 12.30 in the lounge of Victoria Grange on Barlow Moor Road.
Having chosen a theme at the previous meeting we each choose a poem, read it, then the group discusses it. One of our members puts it like this:
I have always loved poetry but the poets and poems that have meant the most to me are very much those I studied at school. I joined the poetry group because I wanted to become familiar with modern poets. I enjoy selecting my choice for the monthly theme and taking it along to the monthly meeting where we each read the poem of our choice before it is opened up for response/ discussion by all members of the group. The poems chosen are always very varied and become much more meaningful when read aloud. Group meetings are certainly opening up the world of poetry for me and I think what I am most in awe of is how, through words and imagery, poets express so vividly responses to aspects of nature and the human condition that we too may have felt or experienced at some time but would have difficulty conveying to others. The company too is both pleasant and stimulating and the venue very convivial.

The group is now full but anyone interested could contact the Groups Co-ordinator who will ask the group leader to you on the waiting list.
